Fever or high body temperature varies depending on the cause or effect on the body. It is indeed one of the most recognized medical conditions in the world. Fever can also be referred to as either pyrexia or febrile response; it is mostly related to complications from other infections.

Not all fever is bad or require medication but in case of discomfort, medications are only used to reduce the temperature.Our body also uses it as a form of defense against any infection.

Pel-Ebstein Fever

The body temperature may rise up to several days and becomes lower afterwards. This could occur repeatedly for several weeks.

Intermettent Fever

This kind of fever only last for few hours during the day and later comes back to normal.

Periodic Fever

This type of condition happens when there is recurrence of prolonged high body temperature which last for numerous days and could be seen reoccur after few weeks.

The signs and symptoms of fever may be determined by real cause of the fever. Likely symptoms include:

  • The child starts to jerk arms &/or legs
  • Unconsciousness
  • The child begins to breath irregularly
  • Uncontrollable urination &/or defecation

Fever Diagnosis: How Do I Know If I Have Fever?

Fever can be diagnosed simply by measuring the body temperature. If the temperature is higher than normal, further diagnosis will be done to identify the root cause of the fever.A digital thermometer is required and recommended. Method of measurement could be oral (through the mouth), axillary (under the armpit), tympanic (ear) etc. The most effective method however, is measuring body temperature through rectal (through the anus) temperature reading.

Prevention Of Fever: How Can I Prevent Fever?

Preventive measures you can take to reduce your chance of getting high body temperature include:Maintaining proper hygiene will help to reduce infections that may trigger fever.Not all fever require treatment, but if there are unpleasant feelings as a result of fever, visit your doctor to identify the root cause and likely steps to take.Get more fluid into your body by drinking more clean water.

Avoid excessive direct exposures to sunlight, if you must stay outdoor for prolonged hours, try to wear protective cloths that will protect your body from direct sun rays.Let your rooms, workshop, offices and other places you stay be well ventilated to allow fresh air and breathing space.

Treatment Of Fever: What Is The Best Treatment Option For Fever?

Most fever will vanish even when not treated but if you feel uncomfortable because of fever, the use of paracetamol &/or ibuprofen is enough to relieve the pain. Ibuprofen should not be taken during pregnancy.

You should however note that, rather than treating fever, it is advisable to consult your doctor to identify the root cause of the fever since fever is just one of the symptoms of an infection.
